FunDiv: functional significance of forest biodiversity

I worked as a Field Technician alongside Dr Harriet Milligan, in Romania-Rasca Northern Carpathians, Germany – Hainisch National Park, Italy – Colline Metallifere Tuscany and Finland- Joensuu. Harriet’s PhD research (supervised by Professor Julia Koricheva) formed part of the FunDiv Europe  project and aimed to assess the food preferences of mammalian herbivores in forests, to understand how the structure of the forest influences their meal choices. Our fieldwork assessed the degree of browsing on woody plant species in forest plots of differing tree species number and composition across three key European forest ecosystems (boreal, temperate, and Mediterranean).

This project is supported by the European Commission under the Environment (including climate change) Theme of the 7th Framework Programme for Research and Technological Development. The FundDiv Europe Knowledge Transfer.
